Baset temple ( αž”្រាសាαž‘αž”ាសែត ) is located on a hill in Baset village, Tapon commune, Sangke district, Battambang province about 14.36 km from provincial hall of Battambang. The temple was built in 11th century between 1036 and 1042 AD during the reign of King Soryavarman I (1002 – 1050 AD). Baset originally named "Srei chey Sket" ( ស្រីαž‡័αž™αž€្សេត្រ ) which mean "Land of Victory" ( ដែαž“αžŠីαž“ៃαž‡័αž™αž‡ំαž“ះ ) and was built to dedicate to the deity of Brahmanism.
In the campus of the temple, there has an ancient pond with 12 meter width and 20 meter length and 10 meter deep, with round stairs made of laterite and it provides water to use both rainy and dry seasons. Moreover, there has a folktale that the villagers always celebrated ceremony to wish different purpose by dropping down the coconut into the pond and if they got their wish, the coconut will appear from the pond on the surface.
Baset Temple is in a very dilapidated condition and was renovated and completed during 2018 by the Department of Culture and Fine Arts of Battambang Province.
